09432 Report - Quantitative Software Design

چکیده
Between 20.10.09 and 23.10.09, the Dagstuhl Seminar 09432, Quantitative Software Design, was held at the International Conference and Research Center (IBFI), Schloss Dagstuhl. Quantitative software design is a field of research that is not yet firmly established. A number of challenging open research issues are only recently being addressed by the academic research community (see below). The topic is also gaining increasing emphasis in industrial research, as any progress towards a more systematic and goal-driven software design promises the reduction of costs and risks of software projects, by avoiding current trial-and-error approaches to design. The whole field is therefore of high industrial relevance, though it is far from providing ready-to-use solutions. The seminar was structured around ten discussion groups that considered the question of how quantitative software engineering is, could and should be done. A number of interesting insights were gained, particularly due to the interdisciplinary nature of the seminar group and the mix of industrialists and academics. This collection summarizes these group discussions.

A Quantitative Evaluation of Maintainability of Software Architecture Styles
Proper decisions play a crucial role in any software architecture design process. An important decision of design stage is the selection of a suitable software architecture style. Lack of investigation on the quantitative impact of architecture styles on software quality attributes is the main problem in using such styles. Consequently, the use of architecture styles in designing is based on th...
متن کاملIV StratiGraph Software Design and Algorithms ∗
StratiGraph is a novel software to visualize the matrix stratification hierarchy for several input data types. The possibility to enhance the software with extensions, e.g., to integrate it with Matlab, makes the software a powerful tool in working with both quantitative and qualitative information in matrix stratifications. In the work of developing StratiGraph many representational and algori...
متن کاملQuantitative evaluation of software security: an approach based on UML/SecAM and evidence theory
Quantitative and model-based prediction of security in the architecture design stage facilitates early detection of design faults hence reducing modification costs in subsequent stages of software life cycle. However, an important question arises with respect to the accuracy of input parameters. In practice, security parameters can rarely be estimated accurately due to the lack of sufficient kn...
متن کاملA new molecular simulation software package--Peking University Drug Design System (PKUDDS) for structure-based drug design.
We present a comprehensive molecular simulation program package, the Peking University Drug Design System (PKUDDS), which runs on personal computers. PKUDDS has been developed mainly for computer-aided drug design using the methods of two-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationships, three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationships, molecular docking, and database sc...
متن کاملComputer Science Technical Report Using Design Cohesion to Visualize, Quantify, and Restructure Software
During design or maintenance, software developers often use intuition, rather than an objective set of criteria, to determine or recapture the design structure of a software system. A decision process based on intuition alone can miss alternative design options that are easier to implement, test, maintain, and reuse. The concept of design-level cohesion can provide both visual and quantitative ...
